Culture explains a people’s way of communicating, housing, working, foods as well as leisure (including sports). In addition, it incorporates a people’s history and significant values, informing their styles of communication. For a Civil Society organization (including FBOs), specific religious values and practices, only make sense when one understands the culture of the faithful. Culture also sheds light on the governance systems of the said people, hence allowing for informed interactions with them. In Africa, an understanding of the different cultures also informs assistance towards peace, reduced conflicts, election related violence and even voting patterns.  With little knowledge of a people’s culture, one is headed for many rude shocks. Attempts to interact with a people oblivious of their culture, is certainly starting on a wrong foot. These efforts jeopardize the existence of the interacting parties, and also puts the resources being used, at a risk of not realizing the intended goals. The efforts are very risky and may easily go to waste. A few weeks or even days of engagement in relation to the cultures of these peoples, may go a long way in informing the planned activities. Visit us and together, we shall explore the needful.
