A TRUE SOCIAL TRANSFORMER

He was a unique man who exhibited very high academic prowess during his times at the university,, as noted in Ngugi wa Thiong’o’s literature, yet who desired to make significant contributions to his own country.

Indeed, of all that we have had as presidents, I am not sure any can match this unique man. During his reign, Kenya moved from negative growth digits to high levels of numbers nearing 10.

Economists would say that if Kenya had managed to reach double digits of growth, we would have been on our way, bidding farewell to be the third world. Were it not that the demonic yet human-instigated 2007-2008 rift came by, we would have been telling a different economic story as Kenyans.

Under his leadership, the economic growth was not only heard in the media as is with many other regimes but was felt in people’s pockets. Indeed for once, I felt like a patriotic Kenyan. A feeling that went on until Economic and Political rifts restarted again.

His sense of humor was immense. I still remember one statement, “Wacha ilale,” referring to the National Flag. Before him, a drop of the National Flag would even have cost an individual their job.

He was a happy president, as his portraits revealed. His efforts and problem-solving methods were very admirable.

If only our current and future leaderships would have something to learn! How sad to listen to leaders using insulting language, holier than thou false accusations, lies, and show of might and invincibility!

When will we ever learn that we are called to a service of a people that belong to the Divine and not to us?

I never had a moment to meet this hero personally, as I guess many other Kenyans. I yet cherished watching him on national media and relished his leadership.

May the good Lord rest His soul in Eternal peace as we, the remnants, do our individual best to transform ourselves and all around us as per the virtues he demonstrated and lived.

RIP LEGEND!
